Hello Wildcats!

Last week was another great week on campus, and we are looking forward to another great week ahead of us!

This week we will finish our Smart Start Lessons, complete diagnostics for individualized review/practice, and prepare for PM1 Testing next week.

Campus Safety

Reminders

On Campus Arrival & Dismissal
  • Pull all the way forward in the car line
  • Do not park and walk/pick-up your student at a walker gate
  • Yield to families in the crosswalk by the main gate and front office
  • Lookout for cars backing out of parking spaces near the front office
 

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

School Hours
Morning Drop-Off/Breakfast: 7:50 am - 8:15 am
First Bell/Report to Class: 8:15 am
Tardy Bell: 8:20 am
Dismissal: 3:15 pm (2:15 pm on Wednesday)
 
Arrival Procedures
Student drop-off begins at 7:50 am. Please do not leave your student unattended in front of any school buildings or gates before this time.

Dismissal Procedures
Please ensure that your student has the correct dismissal tag on their backpack so they can be sent to the correct dismissal location.

Any changes to dismissal must be made before 2 pm (1 pm Wednesdays) to avoid delays and to ensure there is enough time to notify the teacher. Changes can be made by contacting the front office in person or by leaving a note in your student's communication folder.

Reminder:
No riding bikes, scooters, etc. on campus. Walk to/from the main gates with these items.
 
Visitors

Campus Visitors

All campus visitors should enter through the front office. Please note that the front office remains locked throughout the day. When visitors arrive at the front office, they should ring the doorbell on the doors on the side of the building. The doors facing the parking lot are exit only. A staff member will answer your ring and open the door once you indicate the reason for your visit. Please have your ID ready if you are checking out your student or need a visitor's badge.
No cell phones

Cell Phone & Device Policy

Florida law restricts the use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices during the school day. Students must turn off cell phones and electronic devices and place them in their backpack when they arrive at school. These items must remain stored away during the school day and should not be used until students exit campus.

Attached is the district device policy and associated consequences for violations for your reference.

School News & Updates

Attendance Reminders

Daily attendance is critical for a successful school year.

We are already covering new material so missing school even at the start of the school year is not good.

Tardies also lead to a loss of learning. When students arrive after 9 am, they can be missing all of their daily reading or math lesson so missing multiple lessons in a week due to tardies can also put a student behind.

If a student is sick and must miss school, send a note in your student's communication folder so we can excuse the absence. Unexcused absences can lead to truancy reporting and/or a loss of Choice Approval.

SDOC uses the ReaXium app to share all the latest information about bus transportation. Download the app today and set up your account to get real time information about your student's bus route and location.

PBIS System

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is an evidence-based framework used in schools to prevent negative behavior, teach clear expectations, and build a positive school climate through proactive support rather than just punishment

The word "ROAR" represents our Wildcat School-wide Expectations.
R - Respect for All
O - On-time, On Task
A - Achieve our Best
R - Responsible and Safe Citizens

Students are reminded daily of their ROAR Expectations and have opportunities to earn a reward or incentive for demonstrating them throughout the day.

Incentives Include:
  • PAWsitive Referral
  • Cat Cash to shop in the School Store
  • Cat Cash to buy PBIS event tickets and activity vouchers
  • Attendance & Honor Roll Awards
  • Proficiency & Learning Gain Parties
  • Reading, Math, & Science Challenge Awards

Ask your students about PBIS and how they demonstrate ROAR Expectations throughout the day. Please also celebrate your student if they tell you they earned Cat Cash or one of the incentives listed above!
 

PM1 Testing

We will begin administering the 1st Progress Monitoring (PM1) assessments of the year next week on Monday, August 31st.

Student attendance during this testing window is crucial. It is important students are present on their testing dates so we can collect baseline data for the year and see how much they retained from last year.

As always, we will encourage our Wildcats to just do their best. This is a practice test and will allow us to track performance during the year. Please remind your students to take their time and read every question-and-answer choice carefully before moving on to the next question.

Student Information Packets

Please complete and return the forms from the Back-to-School Student Packets to your student's homeroom teacher ASAP to ensure we have any updates, permissions, and/or requests needed for your student.

There is also information you should review in the packets to stay informed about all school and district-wide policies and resources.

School Volunteer Application

Don't forget to fill out the OASIS Volunteer Application if you would like to volunteer on campus, attend field trips, or assist with campus events.



Note:
-All previous volunteers must complete a new application. There is not a renewal option this year.
-School district employees do not need to complete a volunteer application to volunteer in SODC schools.

Important Reminders

Any requests to change a student's dismissal procedure should be made prior to 2:00 pm (1 pm on Wed) to ensure there is enough time to notify your student's teacher.

Changes must be made by a parent/guardian either in writing or by calling the front office. We will not make changes to a student's dismissal based on a student request.
